About me

Welcome to the Corner-Post.

Here I hope to share with you my passion for agriculture and also show you the real story behind how everyday Australians are helping to feed the world.

My name is Jasmine Nixon and I am the 6th generation on my family farm "Merryvale". So needless to say, agriculture is in my blood. My family run a commercial Angus operation and this is where my passion for beef cattle has originated and led me to establish my own Angus stud.

My passion for agriculture then took me to study Livestock Science at university and in my 'spare time', I show beef cattle. I now currently work as a graduate for one of the largest beef processing companies in Australia. (and still try and make spare time to show cows!)

In 2012 I was awarded The Land Sydney Royal Showgirl title and provided with the awesome oppourtunity to travel around NSW promoting the local show movement and our regional communitites. I hope to use this blog as a medium to not only share my travels and experiences but to also promote the Showgirl movement and help educate the broader community about where their food comes from and the oppourtunites that a career in agriculture can offer.

Please sit back and enjoy!
And if you ever wonder what happens "behind the scenes" to putting that succulent steak on your plate, please feel welcome to drop me a line!

Why Corner-Post? To me, a corner-post symbolises something fundamental which helps provide support and define things. This is what I hope to achieve from my posts on this blog - provide useful information and knowledge about agriculture and all that occurs and influences our communities in regional Australia to the broader community to increase the understanding people have of where their food actually comes from and the importance of our regional communities to the fabric of Australia.
